The In Tune with MP3s IP is an interest project from the Girl Scouts of Colorado Council. It is part of the Girls Go Tech Interest Project Patches Series.

Note: The following council earned recognition will be LIMITED EDITION and will be available until existing inventory is exhausted and then discontinued.

How do MP3 players work? Research and explain the music digitalization technology and storage. (Resource: www.howstuffworks.com/mp3-player.htm)

  1. Download two different types of media (e.g. *.wav, *.mp3, *.jpg) Describe the differences between the different types of media. Suggested sites for downloading:

  2. How do online music sites protect themselves from hackers? What are the copyrights laws? What are the requirements to download? Is it possible to get a virus from downloading?

  3. Music has been distributed in many different ways. Create a Music History timeline by put the following in order of when they were developed and sold:

  1. Pick two or three devices and fill in the chart below. Device suggestion:

  2. How do you fix the following problems on a MP3 Player?

  3. How would you accessorize an MP3? Look into the accessories available and the secondary market. Learn what attachments are available for radios and alarm clocks.

  1. Create a how to guide to new MP3 users, including music download websites and require.

  2. What’s next? Think of other uses for this technology. Draw what it would look like and list the uses? No idea is too crazy, BE CREATIVE!

  3. Interview a MP3 technology expert and share the results with your troop or leader.
