Global Politics The Global Politics IP is an interest project from the Girl Scouts of Northern California Council.
Activities
Complete six of the following:

Research the career of an ambassador, politician, or governing official in a foreign country. Find out how they started their career. Share this information with a group of your peers.

Research what the life of a child is like in a foreign country. What kind of government do they have? Do they go to school? What is the average standard of living? What are the most common ways of income (jobs)? What is the money unit and how is it equivalent to the US dollar? How do they spend there spare time? Share this information with a group of younger girls.

Plan and participate in a debate with your peers. Announce the issue before hand, and have participants select a foreign country to represent. Allow enough time prior to the debate for everyone to research the positions their foreign countries would take.

Study the structure of the UN. What are the steps required to pass a resolution? What are the main functioning bodies of the UN? Then enact the process of passing a resolution.

Create a collage showing the international problems facing the world today.

What are some of the products you use daily that are produced by transnational corporations? What are the names of the companies? What nations do they produce their products in?

Watch a debate. This can range from a Congressional debate to student council. Observe the tactics of speaking and responding that the participants use. What sort of format do they use? Write up the key elements for a successful debate.

Design your own nation. Include type of economy, type of government, size, location, population, major issues that could be problems, i.e. health care. How does your nation interact with other nations through trade, through the United Nations, etc? Display your created nations for others to see.

Draw a family tree. Research your family history. What nation did your family originate from? What caused them to leave?

Visit a place of politics. This can range from a city official to an embassy to a United Nations library. What sort of information and services are available to you?

Plan a debate for a group of younger girls. Choose a topic and explain it to them. Allow them to debate the topics, using proper UN procedures.

Keep a journal for at least three months of global problems in the news. At the end, record how the problems have been resolved or changed during this period of time.
